DALLAS, TX APRIL 1, 2025

In a landmark partnership, Tower Street Insurance has been selected as the official insurance provider supporting the rollout of Major League Baseball’s new Torpedo Bat — a revolutionary piece of equipment already reshaping the 2025 season.

The Torpedo Bat, designed by Yankees hitting coordinator and baseball innovator Aaron Leanhardt, features a distinctive bowling-pin-like shape, engineered to shift weight towards the barrel and increase both control and power. Early use of the bat by the New York Yankees has generated impressive results, including a notable uptick in home runs, higher exit velocities, and, naturally, plenty of discussion around the league.

Tower Street's Role

As MLB introduces this bold change, Tower Street has been tasked with creating a specialized insurance program to address both the success and acceptability of the Torpedo Bats throughout the league. The policy provides comprehensive coverage, considering everything from equipment performance to potential fan and player response as the bats become more widely used.

A representative from Tower Street stated, “This opportunity aligns perfectly with Tower Street’s expertise in crafting creative insurance solutions for unique exposures. Baseball is entering a new era, and we are proud to help manage the risks associated with innovation on such a grand stage.”

Yankees Leading the Change

The Yankees, no strangers to pushing the limits of baseball technology, have fully embraced the new bat, already making headlines with towering home runs and revitalized offensive stats. Fans, analysts, and players alike are closely watching to see how the rest of the league adapts — or protests

Looking Ahead

In addition to traditional liability components, Tower Street’s coverage includes:

  • Protection against player safety concerns
  • Ballpark infrastructure considerations
  • Risk management for baseballs potentially leaving stadium premises more frequently (and dramatically) than before
  • League-wide fan and player acceptance guarantees

Tower Street will work closely with MLB executives, club officials, and equipment manufacturers throughout the season to monitor the implementation and impact of the Torpedo Bats.
